Professor of Digital Information Course
School of Social Informatics
Chuo University
Since 1971 I have lived in Fujisawa city located in the Pacific
Ocean side with my mother Tomiko, my wife Eiko and two daughters Yoko and
Keiko who was married and resides in Yokohama.
I enjoy Japanese way of life and my hobbies of
gardening and sports include tennis, swimming skiing and fishing.
I held my first professorship in Information Science at
Aichi Shukutoku University,
Nagoya where I managed Information Education Center and Graduate School
between 1984 and 1991.
In April 1991, I moved to
Chuo University as professor of Social Informatics.
In Chuo University I direct a new interdisciplinary research and education. I
also direct the Master and Doctor of Social Informatics degree program in
digital information course.
Since the early 1990s I have studied the multimedia and Internet transforms
for society, professionals, workers, and the public.
In 2002, I was a Visiting Professor of the University of California, Davis where I conducted research of distance learning project.
I am currently studying the
knowledge agent based user-interface for Digital Library and the effective
use of digital media to support communication.
I have consulted for private firms, non-profit organizations and the
governments about the opportunities and problems of computerization.

In 2001 I received the Educational Award from the Japanese Society of
Information Science and Technology. I was awarded several prizes such as
Information Science Research Grant Program Award(1988) and Keidanren Award
(Japanese Ministry of Commerce 1979).
I have presented numerous conference papers, given invited lectures at many
universities and given keynote talks at conferences in Japan.
